YouTube Tag Extractor

Tags are keywords a creator adds in YouTube Studio. They're hidden from viewers, but they're part of a video's public data. This tool reveals them for any public video so you can study how others describe their content.

YouTube itself says tags play a minimal role in discovery and mainly help with commonly misspelled words — so treat them as research, not a ranking shortcut. Titles, thumbnails and descriptions matter much more.

How to use the tag extractor

  1. 1Paste a video link.
  2. 2Press Get tags.
  3. 3Click tags to select them, or copy all as a comma-separated list.

How it works

Tags are read from the official YouTube Data API. The tool also shows the total character count against YouTube's 500-character limit and highlights tags that appear in the video's title.

Frequently asked questions

Why does a video have no tags?

Many creators don't add any. Tags are optional.

Should I copy a competitor's tags?

Use them as ideas. Only use tags that accurately describe your video — misleading tags violate YouTube's spam policies.

How many tags can a video have?

There's no fixed count, but all tags together are limited to 500 characters.
