How it works
Comments come from the official YouTube Data API. Sentiment is scored with the AFINN-165 word list, which gives each word a score from −5 to +5 and sums them per comment. It's fast and transparent, but word lists miss sarcasm, slang and context — use it as a quick read of the room, not a verdict.
Questions are detected by a question mark at the end or a question word at the start.
Frequently asked questions
Why are some comments missing?
Only top-level public comments are analysed. Replies, held-for-review and removed comments aren't available.
Does it work if comments are turned off?
No — the tool will tell you comments are disabled for that video.
Does it understand languages other than English?
The sentiment word list is English. Comments in other languages will mostly score as neutral.
